Key Difference-Enols vs Enolates vs Enamines

Enols, enolates and enamines are three different types of organic compounds. Enol is also called olefin alcohol. This is because enols are formed by combining olefins and alcohols. It is a reactive structure because the enol appears as an intermediate compound in a chemical reaction. Enolates are derived from enols. Enolates are conjugate bases of enols. This means that the enolate is formed by removing a hydrogen atom from the hydroxyl group of the enol. Enamine is an amine compound that contains an amine group near the double bond. The chemical reactivity of enolates and enamines are almost similar. The key difference between enol, enolate and enamine is that the enol contains a hydroxyl group with an adjacent C=C double bond and enolates contain a negative charge on the oxygen atom of an enol whereas the enamines contain an amine group adjacent to the C=C double bond.

What is enol?

Enol is an organic compound that contains a hydroxyl group (C=C double bond) adjacent to the alkene group. Enol is formed by the combination of alcohol and olefin. The name of this compound is derived from the original compound it was formed; "en" comes from alkene, and "ol" comes from alcohol.

Compared with enolates and enamines of the same molar mass, enols have the lowest nucleophilic activity. This means that the enol has poor nucleophilicity. However, its nucleophilicity is controlled by the electron-rich pi bond, which consists of the extra electron density from the oxygen atom of the hydroxyl group.

Enols are usually obtained by removing a hydrogen atom from the alpha carbon of the carbonyl compound. Carbon is the carbon atom close to the carbonyl group. This is a deprotonation reaction because it involves the removal of protons. If this proton does not return, an enol acid ion is formed.

What are enolates?

Enolates are conjugate bases of enols. Therefore, the enolate is formed by removing a hydrogen atom from the hydroxyl group of the enol. Enolate is the anionic form of enol. The enolate has a negative charge on the oxygen atom, which is located near the C=C double bond. The hydrogen atom in the hydroxyl group of the enol can be removed and react with the base to form the enolate. Aldehydes or ketones react with appropriate bases to obtain enolate.

Enolates have high nucleophilicity and can react effectively with electrophiles. The nucleophilic activity of enolates is higher than enols and enamines. The nucleophilicity of enolate anions is caused by several reasons.

The atomic radius of the oxygen atom is very small

Enolates are formally negatively charged

Compared with enamine, the oxygen in enolate has higher electronegativity than the nitrogen atom in enamine

What is enamine?

Enamines are organic compounds composed of amine groups adjacent to C=C double bonds. Enamine is formed by the condensation of aldehydes or ketones with secondary amines. Enamines are considered to be the nitrogen analogues of enols.

Can Boric Acid Help Treat Yeast Infections?

Boric acid is an effective way to treat yeast infections. When other antifungal drugs do not work, doctors recommend using it as a second-line treatment.

Boric acid can prevent the growth of Candida. This acid can be used as a vaginal suppository.

A small amount of yeast on the skin, mouth, throat, and vagina is healthy. In some cases, such as when the immune system is weak or hormones change during pregnancy, yeast may multiply and cause infection.

The medical term for yeast infections is candidiasis. Yeast infections are common and often occur in the vagina. They are usually caused by C. albicans or C. glabrata fungi.

Boric acid is a white powder or crystalline solid, which acts as a powerful antiviral and antifungal agent in the body. Studies have shown that boric acid inhibits the growth of Candida albicans and Candida glabrata. It interferes with the natural life cycle of yeast and prevents it from growing and becoming infectious.

According to trusted sources from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), if other antifungal drugs or ointments cannot treat yeast infections or recurrences, people should use boric acid as a secondary treatment.

Boric acid may be able to treat infections that are resistant to first-line treatment. This is usually an antifungal medication and may include a single oral fluconazole or topical antifungal cream. If none of these work, the doctor may recommend boric acid or other treatments such as nystatin or flucytosine.

People can use gelatin capsules as vaginal suppositories. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends taking capsules containing 600 mg of boric acid once a day for two weeks.

Boric acid medications are usually affordable. You can buy them over the counter in pharmacies or online.

If symptoms persist after taking boric acid, please consult your general practitioner or gynecologist.

Boric acid vaginal suppositories are available. They are an oval-shaped solid capsule that people can insert into the vagina. When they heat up to the temperature of the body, they become liquid.

To treat Candida infections, CDC recommends vaginal suppositories containing 600 mg of boric acid. People should use it once a day for two weeks.

Be sure to take the medicine according to the instructions on the medicine label.

Before using vaginal suppositories, make sure your hands and vaginal area are clean and dry to prevent bacteria from entering your body.

To use suppositories, a person should:

Fill up the applicator, lie on your back with your knees bent, or stand with one foot raised on a chair.

Gently insert the applicator into the vagina.

Press the plunger to release the capsule.

Gently remove the applicator.

Some instructions suggest using suppositories before going to bed. This is because lying down can reduce the risk of medicine leakage.

It is safe to use suppositories during menstruation. Use menstrual pads instead of tampons, because tampons will absorb some medications.
